Experiential Resort – Travaasa

Looking for a new type of ‘getaway’ in 2017? Check out an experiential resort!

Travaasa is an experiential resort located about 30 minutes from Downtown Austin – situated on the edge of the balcones canyonlands preserve. From planned activities, to a luxury spa, farm to table food and evening S’mores, this is best to be compared with a luxury “camp” for adults.

ACCOMODATIONS:

The 5* resort has  7 motel style units which each hold 10 separate accomodations.  The warm and soft tones of the room gives a relaxing and inviting feel.  All rooms contain balconies that provide you with breathtaking views (though, some better than others). With comfortable beds and amazing Kashwere blankets, you are sure to get a good night sleep after a day full of activities. And just remember, you are here to experience the resort so your room is only for you to sleep 😉

ACTIVITIES:

The list can go on! There are so many things for you to do during the day and they are suitable for people of all interests.  While there are some workout classes including Yoga and Pilates, please note that this is not a fitness resort. Some of my favorite experiences were the Giant Swing and the Obstacle Course.  My heart was pumping, knees were shaking, the adrenaline was racing and I loved doing something that I wouldn’t normally get to do. Getting out of your comfort zone is perfectly okay!

You are able to try everything so why not just go for it – That’s what an experiential resort is all about!!!  From Two Stepping to Belly Dancing, to Juice demonstrations and whiskey tasting*, morning hikes and meditation sessions, there is something to keep you busy all moments of the day.

Bare in mind that you are coming for the activities so keep an open mind. I even did a vison-board session, preparing for the New Year and next chapter of my life. For the most part, the experiences remain the same throughout the year.  I recommend taking a look at the schedule online prior to arrival so you can plan your days accordingly.

FOOD:

Given the Farm they have on property, the food at Travaasa is as fresh as can be, catering towards a healthy lifestyle.  They will accommodate all dietary restrictions too.  My favorite meal was a zuccinni spaghetti with quinoa ‘meatballs’.  The flavors were amazing, fresh, and perfectly spices. Breakfasts were wonderful and started off with fresh baked muffins and kale juice.

We did some light lunches and snacks throughout the day.  Travaasa also offers an all inclusive meal plan (drinks not included) but we opted for A La Carte.  Our favorite dessert was the S’mores experience either by the fire place or outside at the firepit. Overall, you will definitely get fresh food with flavorful ingredients.  The 5* service will also give you a wonderful experience to go with the amazing meal.

SPA:

Spa at Travaasa is well worth the booking!  In fact, people travel to Travaasa just for the Spa experience, even if they are not staying over night.

We started the experience by the pool, lounging in bathrobes and enjoying the view.  From there we made our way to the Vitality pool, followed by the steam room.  Relaxed and ready…

I have particular requests when I get a massage – don’t we all….  I know from sitting at a desk my neck and shoulders are hard as a rock.  But it’s from working out that I prefer the focus to be on my limbs, feet, hands, etc.  This masseuse focused exactly on those areas! The time was well dispersed and it was such an incredible way to end an active day.

**If you purchase the All Inclusive plan for the resort, you will also receive $175 spa credit.

TRANSPORTATION:

The resort is about 30 minutes from Downtown Austin and 45 minutes from the airport.  They will accommodate you with a black car service for $75 each way.  However, I recommend FASTEN which is equivalent to UBER. This was about half the cost.  It would be great if the Lodge had a shuttle option but this is something they did not seem to have an interest in starting.

LAST THOUGHTS:

Overall, Travaasa was an incredible weekend and somewhere I would definitely go back to (hopefully their Hawaii location next).  If you are traveling with a friend, loved one, or a group, there is something to keep everyone busy. Be sure to see which meal option would suite you best and definitely check the schedule before arriving in order to make the most of your time!
