Combining the two…

TravelFitLove is about traveling and exploring cities (hotels, tours, etc.), while also sharing different activities to do in each destination in order to stay active.  Below is a post that explains this more generally.

As you know, I love to travel and workout.  However, often times the two may not go together.  Here are a few ways to incorporate working out with your travels:

Prepare for take-Off: Drink lots of water before and during your flight. While this is not only great for your skin and will have you feeling great, it will also have you up and to the bathroom every so often 😉 Take this time to walk up and down the aisles.  Stretch your legs – hamstrings, quads, and calves – back/neck and arms.  This only takes a few moments and does not involve a lot of space.

Use the jetlag to your advantage: I am frequently traveling out of the country. Because of the time differences, I am often asleep early and wake up even earlier. Being awake before everyone else’s day starts allows me to fit in a workout.  Whether it is in the hotel gym, or some HIIT in my room, this extra time is perfect to get in my workout.

Explore the neighborhood: If you’re at a beach resort or in a European city, go for a run or brisk walk to get in your workout. This is also a great way to explore the nearby local restaurants and shops. (Having new things to look at as you run makes the runs fly by, too!)

Plan activities: I often find that my metabolism actually boosts while I travel, because of the different foods that I am trying and because I am not sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day! While vacation is a good time to relax, it’s always a good idea to add in some tours, excursions, or beach activities to get you moving. Many resorts include “non-motorized” activities in your fee – definitely ask your concierge and try to take advantage of those! Ever try SUP Paddle Boarding? SUP is a great full body workout because it engages all of your muscles for balance and arms to help you move. Not near water? Look for a local walking tour or bike rentals so you can explore the new (to you) city.
